Mines a older model 8526. Has the Tecumseh engine. Engine runs ok. Idles funny. Rebuilt carb, replace spark plug. No better. Engage drive or auger and runs fine. Front bucket is ROTTED OUT!!!! Cheap super crappy steel. Ive only seen VERY OLD MACHINES ROT LIKE THIS. But it gets the job done. Kinda... dont waste your money. The current model has a Chinese engine. That just says troy bilt. Stay away from any MTD or box store brand machine.

Purchased this machine for 799.99 at Lowes in December of 2004. I live in Minneapolis, MN and get a lot of snow. It clears most snow without any problem and has been pretty reliable. Over the past 9 seasons or so a few things have gone wrong - the carb had to be fixed once, a tire fell off the wheel when it lost its bead, and the gas line leaked. The electronic starter also went out about a week ago, the teeth on the gear wore off, but the 10 year electronic iginition warranty hopefully will cover it, otherwise it is about a 75 dollar part. Overall in 9 seasons of use, I have had to put about $300 into the machine, including regular maintenance. I do wish it was a little better on the heavy, wet snow, but for the price it has been a good machine. I am hoping for another 4-5 years out of it before I buy a new one, but will probably buy a Honda or Ariens for my next machine, and hopefully that will be the last one I buy. Overall a good 10-15 year machine.
